Government Agency Online Store
Designing and launching an online store for a government agency
Challenge
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was looking to design and implement a user-centered, intuitive, and modern online e-commerce solution for offering products of the agency. One of the main requirements was to include products and services from the agency’s different divisions as part of one consolidated online store. ODNR already owned a website leveraging the InnovateOhio Platform functionalities, the State of Ohio program to modernize and consolidate state agencies’ digital presence.
Solution
Leveraging the existing website, Base22 built this solution on top of the existing website by integrating Shopify as an e-commerce solution. Base22 designed and delivered a modern, convenient, and easy-to-manage online storefront. The team designed an architecture that integrates Shopify and InnovateOhio Platform tools, including Shopify analytics, and configured a Shopify tenant specifically for ODNR. Among its new features, the solution included Compliant Payment Processing, Custom inventory management tools, and custom reporting configuration. In addition to this, the new user experience followed their own and existing branding guidelines.
The new online store was launched in 2022 with a catalog featuring over 50 products from ODNR’s different divisions. Over 1,400 products were sold in the first weeks after launch. As part of the engagement, the Base22 team provided multiple training sessions to support the change management process for ODNR and its divisions, such as online store reports and inventory management, online store administration, point of sale, and fulfillment center training.
